Jason served as our Executive Director from 2014-2015 and as our Marketing and Communications Director in 2016. He is experienced in all aspects of nonprofit marijuana activism, including: fundraising, lobbying, marketing, event planning, outreach, communications, media, graphic design, promotions, operations, and merchandising.
An advocate for abolishing the unjust policy of Cannabis prohibition and replacing it with a legal and regulated marketplace for adult use, Jason believes that human beings should never be punished by their government for using Cannabis responsibly, whether it be for medical, therapeutic, or recreational purposes. He also stresses the importance of the economic advantages to legalization, and replacing the criminal market with a legal market regulated by taxation, age restrictions, licensing, quality controls and consumer protections.
Jason has put together numerous fundraisers and educational seminars for Houston NORML, including a march and rally at City Hall that attracted over 1500 attendees, and a televised panel discussion that included Harris County’s District Attorney and Sheriff. Jason has appeared on local news media advocating for medical marijuana and decriminalization. In 2015, he testified before the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee in the Texas House of Representatives in support of a bill to reduce the penalty for possessing one ounce or less of marijuana from a criminal misdemeanor to a civil penalty.
Jason is the President and CEO of Internet LAVA, a web development and marketing company that provides services to lawyers throughout the United States. Many of his clients are criminal defense lawyers who also advocate for marijuana reform. His company has sponsored every National NORML Legal Seminar since 2010. Held twice per year in Aspen and Key West, attending these seminars has given Jason valuable insight into the complexities of national and local marijuana laws and policy. Over the years, Jason has gotten to know the staff at National NORML as well as many of the lawyers on the NORML Legal Committee.
Jason graduated from The Art Institute of Houston in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Web Design and Interactive Media. Jason is a Life Member of RAMP (Republicans Against Marijuana Prohibition), a member of the Houston Interactive Marketing Association (HiMA), and an associate member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL).
In his spare time, Jason enjoys painting and going to concerts. Jason was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. He moved to Houston in 2009 and has a 9-year-old son.
